Promoting Aberystwyth Town Life

Aberystwyth – A Place for Enjoyment

Aberystwyth is renowned for its exuberant population, and the nightlife and cultural activities reflect that. You can dine at Ultracomida, on Pier Street, which has an eclectic mix of Spanish, French and Welsh produce, large communal areas for dining, and life-changing Spanish hot chocolate. Or you could enjoy the organic fare at The Treehouse, on Baker Street; or tapas at Agnelli’s, or fish and chips from one of the many takeaways; a pizza from Hollywood, or a Chinese/Indian/Thai takeaway…the list is broad, and more eateries are regularly added to the list of what’s new in town.

Your tastes may not lean towards eating out. You may wish to hit the town hard (whilst drinking responsibly, of course). The town centre caters to that, too, and amply so. There is a wide range of pubs in the town centre. You will all have your favourites: perhaps Rummers, with its sawdust floors and live bands, or the Cambrian Hotel, pint glass cocktails and belly-busting Sunday roasts. The Academy, with its incongruous setting in a former chapel, might win the competition for one of the most elegant interiors, but newly opened The Libertine would no doubt beg to differ.

If you’re not after a night out on the tiles, Aberystwyth can provide alternatives. You can have a night at the movies at the Commodore Cinema on Bath Street, or head up to the Arts Centre to see one of its many operatic, drama, dance or concert performances – or perhaps just to browse through the bookshop or check out the art gallery. A little way down the hill, the Drwm at the National Library of Wales regularly host a wide variety of cultural events in its multi-media auditorium.

You may gain enjoyment from life’s simpler pleasures. A walk up the promenade is not complete without fulfilling the local tradition of “kicking the bar”. The story goes that if you kick the bar at the end of the promenade (outside Alexandra Halls) and then kick the bar again once you reach the Marina, you will always return to Aberystwyth. Given the wealth of available activities here, and the rich and vibrant lifestyle you will find as a resident of the town, then it’s hard to believe that you wouldn’t want to come back.
